FAQs

We hope to answer any questions you have here, but if you need further assistance, please contact us via the form below.

Q: Where is the church located?

Our church is located on a peaceful, quiet country road, surrounded by nature and a pond at 142 Lower Newtown Road, Waterford, NY 12188.

Q: What time is service and when should I arrive?

Sunday service is at 10am. We recommend arriving 15 minutes early for coffee and fellowship. If you’re registering children for Newtown Kids, we suggest 20 minutes early.

Our Wednesday students service and other activities typically begin between 6 or 7pm.

Q: Where can I park?

We have ample parking as well as handicap parking and access around the front and side of the worship center.

Q: What should I wear?

What are you most comfortable in? Casual clothes are perfectly acceptable, while some guests like to dress up. We care more that you come here than about what you’re wearing!

Q: Where do my children go?

Kid’s check in and registration is downstairs in the lower level of the worship building and they will either be cared for in the lower level classrooms or the student center adjacent to the worship center.

Q: What denomination is Newtown?

We are a non-denominational church, so we don't have strong ties to any particular group.  We're an evangelical congregation that believes and teaches the Bible as God's Word.

Q: How do I become a member?

We offer membership classes where you can learn more about what being a member means to us, asks of you, and its purpose in general. This is the first step in becoming a member. You can find our next membership class dates on our events page here.

Q: How can I get more involved and know what's going on at Newtown?

Please download the Church Center app, visit our events page for upcoming activities, and reach out via the ministry or serving forms on our site to get more involved. We’re so excited to have you!

Q: Who do I contact?

For general inquiries, please use the contact form below at the bottom of this site. For specific contacts, please visit our staff page and email the appropriate person there.

Q: I don't look or at like the "church" crowd. Will I be welcomed?

Absolutely! We’re a one-size-fits-all kind of church, with diversity in all areas. We seek to have a heart like Jesus - loving and welcoming of anyone just as they are, in the hopes that everyone can encounter a life-changing and transformative relationship with God.

Q: I've never done the "church" thing. Can you walk me through what to expect?

Totally relatable. We’d be nervous trying something for the very first time, too! As soon as you park and arrive on site, you’ll be greeted at the entry of our Worship Center by a volunteer or staff member. They’re prepared to answer any questions you may have or guide you to where you need to go. Up the steps and through the main doors you’ll find our entryway with bathrooms. Up and off to the right is our complimentary cafe with coffee, tea and water, and up to the left is our family room where the service streams for parents of littles who aren’t comfortable in the big sanctuary.

Find yourself a seat (if you’d rather not sit alone, please let a greeter know and we are more than happy to sit with you!) and relax, or feel free to introduce yourself to anyone near by! There are plenty of fellow newbies each week, and there are people who have been here for 40 years! The service begins promptly at 10am, and kicks off with praise and worship where we sing songs to words on the screen on stage. Sing along if you’d like, but no pressure if you aren’t comfortable or don’t know the words yet. We sing praise to God out of a heart of love, gratitude, and honor for who He is and the gift of His love and presence in our lives.

Next, you’ll hear some announcements and then the sermon will begin. Usually, Pastor Matt Eachus preaches a powerful message from the Bible, using verses, stories, parables and real life illustrations in order to help us learn and grow deeper in God’s word and live and act more like Jesus. But sometimes there are guest preachers, missionaries, or elders who will give a sermon. Once the sermon is over, we sing more songs and wrap up. Often, prayer will begin and conclude the message. This is a short moment of reflection and connecting with God. Feel free to bow your head if you’d like but do whatever is most comfortable for you.

If you feel lost a little your first time, know that’s completely normal. We have lots of resources to help you learn more about God, the Bible, and the Christian life so please don’t hesitate to connect with us at the Connect booth at the back after service. We have volunteers ready to help answer your questions and get connected (plus, you get a free freshly baked cookie on your first visit!).

The church service ends around 11:15am and visitors typically mingle and chat for 15-20 minutes after the service in the sanctuary, so feel free to do the same! Our children’s programs end at 11:30am and you can pick them up downstairs at check in.

We truly hope you enjoy your time and found meaning and purpose through God’s word at Newtown.

Q: I am (or someone I know is) struggling with mental health or relationships. Can you help me?

This is exactly what our Mental Health Coaching Ministry exists for. Please reach out here. One of our trained and certified coaches will be able to listen, pray with you, and help find some next steps toward healing.
